I’m Johnson, and Purely Dwelling started out of pure annoyance with decor blogs that all say the same thing. Glossy rooms, expensive-looking styling, and not one word about what actually holds up once you’re living in the space day to day.
This site is about the parts of a house people actually spend a weekend fixing. Bedrooms. Hallways. That one shelf nobody knows what to do with. Small gardens that aren’t really gardens, just a patch of concrete with potential. If you’re trying to make a rented apartment feel less temporary, or you’re stuck staring at an awkward corner wondering what goes there, that’s what I write about.
Why this site exists
Most home decor content falls into two camps. Either it assumes you have an unlimited budget, or it’s so generic it could describe any room in any house built in the last fifty years. Neither one helps when you’re standing in your actual living room trying to figure out what to do with it.
I wanted something that skips the fluff and just says what worked, what didn’t, and why. Some of it comes from projects in my own home. Some comes from digging into current trends and materials. I try to be upfront about which is which, because I think that distinction matters more than people give it credit for.

How I work
I write and research everything on this site myself. If I haven’t personally tried something, I say so, and I’ll pull from manufacturer specs, design forums, and other sources I trust rather than just guessing. Posts get updated when I learn something that changes the advice, whether that’s a resealing schedule or a product that stopped being worth recommending.
If a post links to a product, I’ll flag anywhere I have an affiliate relationship with the brand. It doesn’t change what I recommend. If anything, I’m pickier about what I put in those posts, not less.
